Lilly’s dollhouse

I know it is a little bit late to write about Christmas presents, but I will still do. Last Christmas I gave you my heart Lilly a dollhouse…

In december, my mom and I spent lots of evenings in our living room making Lilly a dollhouse for her Sylvanian families. The first night we started making the furniture, we felt really down, because we thought it would never work out the way we planned. The next morning, the glue of the first pieces of furniture was dry and then it looked already a little bit more like furniture, which gave us fresh courage. And after a few evenings we were really happy with the result.

Bedroom and bathroom

Welcome in Lilly’s dollhouse shared bed -and bathroom.

We made the bed with empty matchboxes, and wooden popsicle sticks. On the bed we used leftover fabrics to make two pillows and a blanket. At both sides of the bed you can find a nightstand with a night light on it. The nightstands are made from cardboard covered with wooden popsicle sticks and for the night lights we used wooden pearls. As for all the curtains in the house we used leftover fabrics and ribbon and attached them to the walls with velcro strap. All carpets are made from leftover yarn (If you like to knit and sew, you have tons of leftover yarn and fabric). The lamp is also made from leftover yarn and inside there is a wooden pearl. For the windows we have used our best drawing skills.

For the bathroom we cheated and bought it online. You can also find a lot of other rooms online, but it was way more fun to make the other rooms ourselves and then it would be more unique.

Kidsroom

Let’s continue the tour in the kidsroom. For this room we needed a bunk bed, so the two kittens could go to sleep. This bunk bed is made of 2 matchboxes and wooden popsicle sticks. Out of the lower bed you can pull out a third bed, so they can have sleepovers with the other sylvanian families kids. We used leftover fabrics to make the sheets on the bed and leftover yarn for the toy basket. At the wall, we hung a wallhanger made of a wooden popsicle stick and leftover yarn. The clothes rack is made of the inside of a matchbox and 5 matches and the three hangers we made of paperclips.

TV room

Lilly loves to watch Disney movies (so do we), especially Frozen 1 and 2. Therefore a TV room could not be missing in the dollhouse. We wanted to make a corner sofa, because we like a lot ourselves. The sofa is made of the same cardboard as the nightstands. A week before we started making the dollhouse in one of the packages of an online order there was cardboard used as extra safety and this was great for some of the furniture. It is covered with leftover corduroy fabric that I used to make a skirt for Lilly. The pillows are made of leftover yarn and fabric. For the TV and the TV cupboard we used matchboxes and a piece of a cork. The fake plant was a decoration piece on a present I got for my birthday from my boyfriends sisters. Perfect to go into the dollhouse.

Living room and kitchen

My mom was saying from the beginning that she really wanted to make living room-kitchen with a corner bench for the dollhouse, which was a wonderful idea. Actually I also want one in my home one day, but this won’t be possible in the house were living in right now. The bench is made of the same cardboard as the sofa and the nightstands, covered with wooden popsicle sticks, just as the table. The table legs are made of corks, just as the stools where we glued on a cute button. Just as a lot of the other furniture, the kitchen cabinets are made of matchboxes and wooden popicle sticks. The doorknobs and the vases are made of wooden pearls and the pot on the countertop is a bottlecap.

The back wall of the house, the chimney and the furniture are painted with leftover paint from our furniture at home and we used deco paper as wall paper for the upper part of the bed -and bathroom and the kidsroom and for the TV-room and the living room-kitchen.

It was very fun to make, especially because we did it together. Those were a few lovely craft evenings with a glass of sparkling wine in decembre and Lilly was really happy with the result.

We can still add more furniture over time and even add an extra room if we want by adding a closet underneath, but for now this is perfect for her.

I hope you liked it and that it gave you some inspiration for gift ideas for cute girls/boys.

See you soon
